I’ve been wanting a waistcoat/pants set, and alexandria_arnold ‘s gorgeous white set inspired me. Butterick 6901 and Protea Pants by paradisepatterns (see previous post for details). Linen from fabricsstorecom.
The waistcoat/vest calls for fusible interfacing for the entire front and back outer fabric. That seemed too risky and weird to me (the bubbling!), so I installed quilting cotton as sewn-in interfacing, providing a nice, smooth structure. I do love a fancy pattern, but this simple design was just what I wanted — faux welt pockets, a back tie, four pattern pieces, very straightforward. I am slightly terrified of Big 4 patterns because of sizing, so I did a very quick toile and am glad I did. Size 10 fit perfectly with no mods, although the sizing chart puts me at a 12–sorta.

Another weekend, another McCalls 8252 ❤️ #m8252
Round three with this pattern, but this time I swapped the standard sewn-in ring for some chunky gold hardware - it’s giving major ‘Aje’ energy, and I’m here for it. Who knew a little bling could turn a breezy day dress into a wedding-ready stunner?
This bold and beautiful fabric was gifted by Zahra at suzzincolour and when she picked this design for me, I knew it was a winner. It’s pink, it’s graphic, it’s 100% my vibe. Printed via spoonflower you even get to choose the fabric type - I went with cotton poplin for a crisp, light but still structured feel. With thousands of prints to scroll through, I may or may not have fallen down a fabric rabbit hole.
Now, back to the sewing: my overlocker decided to take a holiday, so I painstakingly turned under and stitched every single seam. No one will see it, but I know the inside is gorgeous. Also, I ditched the back skirt zipper in favor of an elastic channel to match the bodice, and it’s now well equipped for those post ceremony canapes and bubbles.
I’m totally obsessed with this pattern, and I guarantee it won’t be my last go at it!

🪩 2024 sewing backlog continues 🪩
This was my third #v1802 made for visio_electri_ to wear to a 1970’s themed fundraiser last June. The mermaid-core, Halston-esque fabric she picked out. I lined it with periwinkle silk georgette from moodfabrics (also used for the pockets!). The fabric was a slippery, glittery nightmare to work with but so pretty! However, to my grave I’ll regret not orienting the grainline vertically, alas.
I love this pattern so much, it’s such a treat to float and swish about in hoards of beautiful fabric. Which, as I’ve noted in prior posts about #v1802: the lined version requires minimum 4-5 yards. The bottom ruffles are greedy.

This is Vintage McCalls 8620 from 1966. See pic at the end for pattern cover and advertising pic. 🥰
There was a lot of structural foundation sewing. Not only did it have a lined cowl but it had interfaced front and back yokes as well as facings. I replaced armhole facings for bias binding and I omitted the zipper as I could pull it over my head. Thank goodness.😆It is not for the faint hearted 🥴
I used this gorgeous Hawaiian Holiday 🌺 Luxury drape viscose satin from themakersocietyaustralia which was the perfect pairing.

Feeling like you’re having a déjà vu? Yes, this one might look familiar to you. I made this pattern a few years ago, last time in sweater form, this time in gabardine.
The fabric is one I got from my mum’s fabric supply, I have no idea where it comes from but I love the colour. I think it was deadstock fabric from a Belgian fashion brand but it must be at least 30 years old. Who cares, I’m happy I can give it new life…
This pattern is quite simple really and the sleeves are amazing, we love a dramatic sleeve!
Can’t wait to wear it for as long as winter lasts here in Dubai, spring will be there before we know it!

First sewing project of the year done ❤ She's not perfect but I've been wanting a white mini skirt for awhile now and I've been playing with the #simplicitypatterns #8093 pattern so reusing the waistband pattern for this skirt was perfect.
Is the skirt too short, yes. Will I ever learn? No and I do not wish to ✨️
✅ I completed another sewing bucket list item with this barn jacket pattern from Butterick. This is #b7016 and it’s a family pattern with both youth and adult sizes in the packet. I chose the size small and shortened the bodice pattern pieces by 2.5”. I need to remember to shorten the sleeves as well because they came up super long. 🙃
This pattern does not come with a lining, but the chunky corduroy which is from the Eddie Bauer line at joann_stores was a little thin for what I wanted, so I decided to challenge myself with figuring it out all by myself. I picked a pretty blue flannel from my stash and found some lining fabric for the sleeves that I had thrifted a while back. I took a lot of cues from a RTW jacket I had with a lining and realized that I needed to take into account the need for ease and movement. Needless to say, I figured out all of the math and it worked! I can’t believe I did that all on my own! It’s such a cozy warm coat and perfect for the weather we’re having right now!
The collar fabric is a gorgeous navy corduroy on top and a vegan leather underneath, both from califabrics
And, of course, my favorite sarahhearts label in the back ☀️ 🌊

Simplicity S8014
simplicity_creative_group #S8014 is my go to shirt dress pattern. While I will make every shirt dress pattern this is the one I always go back to.
It was perfect for this stretch viscose from formerlatterfabrics. The print is very busy and large scale so the pattern allowed the print to shine without competing with the pattern lines.
I made a size 10 with no adjustments except cutting the skirt length between View A & B to work with the fabric width. I also cut the back skirt on the fold and 2 yokes for a burrito finished yoke. I finished this with pigeonwishes.shops buttons.

“I made another suit!! It’s about time, too. I picked up this suiting fabric over two years ago with the intention of making a full suit with it and it took me the better part of those two years to find patterns that would do it justice. I knew I wanted to make an oversized double breasted blazer, and also wanted it to lean a little on the vintage side of things. So I sought out men’s vintage blazer patterns and found a boy’s one that was in my size! I used a vintage trouser pattern that I have used before and attempted to make the leg silhouette a little slimmer.”

“Purple is not a trending color or an ordinary choice for a fall coat, but it is my favorite color!
I started this coat at our sewing retreat to finish it this weekend. It’s Vogue 8884 and it’s a great classic lined coat with a few different options. I chose view A and made it in a melton wool I had purchased from Melanated Fabrics some time ago. Lined in a charmeuse satin it’s a great weight for fall or Spring.
The coat is a great fit with the only adjustments made were to the sleeves that I added approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch to as they are rather slim. The hems are hand sewn so between the buttons and sleeve and main hem it’s a bit of time. I really love the outcome so I definitely want to make another.”
