Forget Cowboy Carter—Cowgirl Cee has entered the chat!
She’s done, y’all!
I finally finished my Beyoncé-inspired Cowboy Carter look, and let me tell you—this head-to-toe denim moment is phenomenally beautiful and completely one of a kind!
I’m head over heels for this trench coat, especially with the dramatic baroque appliqué details that add just the right amount of flair. The denim vest? Chef’s kiss. It’s structured, versatile, and layers like a dream. I paired them both with my third-ever pair of jeans—featuring my second fly front zipper (a win I’ll be celebrating for a while!).
The only thing I’m missing is a western belt with a bold, eye-catching buckle—but don’t worry, it’s on the way thanks to Amazon Prime! Once I ditch the hat and swap my cowboy boots for heels, this look effortlessly shifts from costume to street-style ready.
And let’s talk budget: this medium wash denim was a steal at just $7.19/yd from Hobby Lobby, and the appliqué set of 10 only set me back $11.99. All in, this entire look came together for less than $70 and in just two weeks.

Here are some photos from the visit to the Mary Cassatt exhibit at the legionofhonor .Thank you again to freshfrippery for organizing such a fun outing!
As I mentioned in the last post, I used simplicity_creative_group McCall's 8304 for my dress. It's a Victorian Tea Dress and was quite lovely and comfortable to wear around. The first photo shows me with one of Cassatt's paintings depicting the style of dress I was going for.
The last couple of photos are from the construction. I used organza for the interfacing in the shoulder wings and a look at the super thick ruffling going on at the shoulders. I've got lots more photos and go more in depth on the construction on the blog where I've also got some advice if you're going to try this one. Overall happy with how it turned out and a relatively quick sew as far as historical garments go, but there are some caveats (such as buy 2x the trim).
The little purse is a reticule that I freehanded at the last minute so I could carry around a matching purse to hold all my goodies.
(And no the Legion of Honor does not look out onto the Swiss Alps. That would be me having fun with Photoshop's Generative Fill 😄)

LOVING my new #M8156 top in this fun, vibrant, almost tropical viscose print! It has such beautiful shoulders and attitude (a perfect combo)!
This was one of those projects that just went right! It is considered an average/intermediate pattern and I felt so courageous after making it because it just went so smoothly! A matching waistcoat for the wide-leg pants. 💖💖
I’ve been wanting a waistcoat/pants set, and alexandria_arnold ‘s gorgeous white set inspired me. Butterick 6901 and Protea Pants by paradisepatterns (see previous post for details). Linen from fabricsstorecom.
The waistcoat/vest calls for fusible interfacing for the entire front and back outer fabric. That seemed too risky and weird to me (the bubbling!), so I installed quilting cotton as sewn-in interfacing, providing a nice, smooth structure. I do love a fancy pattern, but this simple design was just what I wanted — faux welt pockets, a back tie, four pattern pieces, very straightforward. I am slightly terrified of Big 4 patterns because of sizing, so I did a very quick toile and am glad I did. Size 10 fit perfectly with no mods, although the sizing chart puts me at a 12–sorta.

After having this sewing make in my wardrobe for some time, I FINALLY got to take some snapshots of it out and about. We popped into a really cool little town on a day with incredibly beautiful weather as the sun was going down and definitely want to go back!
This is a pattern from Vogue patterns that I completely fell in love with after completing this shirt dress. The pattern is #v9299. The beautiful billowing sleeves, wide waistband tie, and side slits for comfort all make for a piece I grab again and again.
The fabric is from joann_stores and I went back and bought way more after how much I fell in love with this piece.

Another weekend, another McCalls 8252 ❤️ #m8252
Round three with this pattern, but this time I swapped the standard sewn-in ring for some chunky gold hardware - it’s giving major ‘Aje’ energy, and I’m here for it. Who knew a little bling could turn a breezy day dress into a wedding-ready stunner?
This bold and beautiful fabric was gifted by Zahra at suzzincolour and when she picked this design for me, I knew it was a winner. It’s pink, it’s graphic, it’s 100% my vibe. Printed via spoonflower you even get to choose the fabric type - I went with cotton poplin for a crisp, light but still structured feel. With thousands of prints to scroll through, I may or may not have fallen down a fabric rabbit hole.
Now, back to the sewing: my overlocker decided to take a holiday, so I painstakingly turned under and stitched every single seam. No one will see it, but I know the inside is gorgeous. Also, I ditched the back skirt zipper in favor of an elastic channel to match the bodice, and it’s now well equipped for those post ceremony canapes and bubbles.
I’m totally obsessed with this pattern, and I guarantee it won’t be my last go at it!

🪩 2024 sewing backlog continues 🪩
This was my third #v1802 made for visio_electri_ to wear to a 1970’s themed fundraiser last June. The mermaid-core, Halston-esque fabric she picked out. I lined it with periwinkle silk georgette from moodfabrics (also used for the pockets!). The fabric was a slippery, glittery nightmare to work with but so pretty! However, to my grave I’ll regret not orienting the grainline vertically, alas.
I love this pattern so much, it’s such a treat to float and swish about in hoards of beautiful fabric. Which, as I’ve noted in prior posts about #v1802: the lined version requires minimum 4-5 yards. The bottom ruffles are greedy.
Most pictures taken by latinafication 📸 but I truly love the Gatorade shot: party girls must stay hydrated!

[V1847 take 2]
Feeling like you’re having a déjà vu? Yes, this one might look familiar to you. I made this pattern a few years ago, last time in sweater form, this time in gabardine.
The fabric is one I got from my mum’s fabric supply, I have no idea where it comes from but I love the colour. I think it was deadstock fabric from a Belgian fashion brand but it must be at least 30 years old. Who cares, I’m happy I can give it new life…
This pattern is quite simple really and the sleeves are amazing, we love a dramatic sleeve!
Can’t wait to wear it for as long as winter lasts here in Dubai, spring will be there before we know it!
